Frequently Asked Questions

How can I protect my dairy cows from ketosis and other related disorders?

Various farm trials show that high levels of calcium propionate is the key ingredient for providing both energy and calcium to fresh cows.

Providing 100 to 150 grams of calcium from calcium propionate lowers the risk of milk fever, ketosis and related disorders, and reduces the symptoms of subclinical hypocalcemia, including depressed immune system, poor muscle tone, and higher incidences of displaced abomasum (DA).

Do your drench mix products provide the nutritional supplementation my herd needs?

Yes, AAS PowerPak™ Drench Mix and AAS Calcium Boost™ Drench Mix provide the 100-150 grams of calcium from calcium propionate needed to treat – and help prevent – many disorders that reduce milk production in fresh or sick cows.

Know that many drench products available on the market today provide only a fraction of the calcium propionate necessary for good results or supply calcium from other sources that provide no gluconeogenic supplementation at all.

Why do AAS products have alfalfa meal?

We add alfalfa meal to our drench mixes as a readily available source of soluble protein for rumen microbial growth.

What other ingredients are essential in an effective drench mix?

It is often recommended to include 1-1.5 lbs. of calcium propionate and 1/4 lb. of potassium chloride and magnesium sulfate as part of an oral drench recipe. PowerPak Drench Mix supplies these ingredients as well as live yeast and direct-fed microbial for optimum results.
